The Importance of Networking Emphasized at Q2 Trust Point Young Professionals Event

The Trust Point Young Professionals (TPYP) group gathered in Rochester on Tuesday, May 14th for their second quarterly event of 2024. Every quarter, the Young Professionals travel from the Minneapolis and La Crosse offices to work on many skills, such as community involvement and professional development.

The day began with a speed networking activity amongst the group to put into practice the theme of the day: Networking. There were 5 rounds of 3 minutes each where members rotated from person to person and talked about topics of their choice. The goal was to get comfortable with striking up conversations and finding common ground. It turns out that networking does not have to be 100% work related and can vary from conversations about family, pets, travel, and more.

A brief period was spent on the TPYP Long Range Plan. This gave the various initiative groups the opportunity to connect in person and build on ideas and goals established in the fall of 2023.

To continue the networking discussion, our very own Julie Westbrock, Vice President, Development, shared her story of how she got where she is in her role today. She mentioned various networking situations she found herself in, how she handled them, and provided tips on how to improve these skills. Later in the day, a networking panel consisting of Julie sharing more insights, Allyson Krause, Managing Director of Retirement Plan Services and Brett Sebion, Financial Coach, extended the topic of the day through panelists answering pre-submitted questions from the Young Professionals group. Each panelist provided a unique perspective given their backgrounds and experiences within the industry and various events they had attended over the years.

After the panel concluded, the group traveled to Meadow Lakes Senior Living with cookies, punch, and succulents in tow. A year prior, the group made fleece tie lap blankets and spring-themed cards for the same residents – so it was nice to pair with the same organization again. The time was spent chatting with the residents and practicing networking skills in a low-risk environment. Many stories were told and laughs shared amongst the group.
