Although the use of checks is on the decline, there are still tricks scammers try to use through checks. One red flag to watch out for is if someone sends you extra money or a check and then asks you to pay them back.
How might this look?
- You won a prize but are asked to send money for taxes and fees
- You sold an item to someone who overpays you then asks for funds back
- You get paid and are asked to wire money back
